Priya Sharma • 2/3/2025 • LinkedIn Tips
LinkedIn has 1 billion users. Recruiters use it every day to find candidates. If your profile isn't optimized, you're invisible to the people who can hire you.
## The LinkedIn Algorithm in 2025
LinkedIn's search algorithm ranks profiles based on: 1. Profile completeness (All-Star status) 2. Keyword relevance to the search query 3. Connection proximity to the searcher 4. Recent activity and engagement
## The 10-Point LinkedIn Optimization Checklist
**1. Professional Photo** Profiles with photos get 21x more views. Use a high-quality headshot with a clean background. Smile.
**2. Compelling Headline** Don't just put your job title. Use this formula: [Role] | [Key Skill] | [Value Proposition] Example: "Senior Product Manager | B2B SaaS | Turning User Insights into Revenue"
**3. Keyword-Rich About Section** Write in first person. Include your target job title, key skills, and a clear call to action. Use the first 3 lines wisely — that's what shows before "see more."
**4. Featured Section** Pin your best work: a portfolio piece, a case study, a published article, or a recommendation.
**5. Detailed Experience Section** For each role, include: - 3–5 bullet points with quantified achievements - Keywords from your target job descriptions - Technologies, tools, and methodologies used
**6. Skills Section** Add 50 skills (the maximum). Prioritize skills that appear in your target job descriptions. Ask connections to endorse your top skills.
**7. Recommendations** Aim for at least 3 recommendations from managers or senior colleagues. Give recommendations to receive them.
**8. Open to Work** Turn on "Open to Work" and set it to "Recruiters only" if you're employed. Be specific about your target roles and locations.
**9. Activity** Post or comment at least 2–3 times per week. Share industry insights, comment on posts in your field, and engage with your network.
**10. Custom URL** Set a custom LinkedIn URL (linkedin.com/in/yourname) and add it to your resume.
